Intro: Wealth and nobility come uninvited.Chauncey (played by Peter Sellers), a simple-minded old gardener who has lived in an old house in Washington and never left. His entire life revolves around watching television, which has become his only means of communication with the outside world. Over time, his thoughts, behaviors, and worldview have become completely televisionized. However, when his employer suddenly passes away, Chauncey finds himself without a place to go, lonely and abandoned. Faced with a strange yet new world, he becomes disoriented. After a sudden car accident, Chauncey unexpectedly becomes the guest of wealthy Washington businessman Eve (played by Shirley MacLaine) and Ben (played by Melvyn Douglas). With the 'broad' knowledge he has learned from television, he astonishes everyone and even becomes a trusted advisor to politicians. This political satire comedy, 'Being There', which gained fame in the late 1970s, is the final work of comedian Peter Sellers. The film won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor at the 52nd Oscars in 1980 and was nominated for Best Actor, also competing for the Palme d'Or in the main competition at the 33rd Cannes Film Festival in 1980.
