To combat the Japanese airplanes and artillery, the local people excavated a series of intricate tunnels using the terrain. Militia captain Gao Chuanbao (played by Zhu Longguang) utilized these clever tunnels to lead the militia in guerrilla warfare against the Japanese army. Although they suffered considerable hardships due to the betrayal of a traitor in their ranks, Tang Binghui, the intelligent and courageous Gao Chuanbao ultimately led his team to encircle the Japanese troops using the tunnels, eliminated Tang Binghui, and captured the Japanese leader, Yamashita. The victory in the tunnel warfare heralded the strongest cry of resistance against Japan in Hebei.
