Young scientist Seth (played by Jeff Goldblum) has just invented an "electric teleporter" that can disassemble objects and automatically reassemble them after transport. Excited, Seth decides to personally experience the teleporter, so he steps into the teleportation pod. Unfortunately, a fly flies into the pod at the same time, and as the machine reassembles the disassembled molecules of Seth, it mistakenly incorporates the fly's molecules into Seth's body. Seth becomes a fly-human with half fly genes.Initially, Seth’s body becomes strong and energetic, much like Spider-Man. His girlfriend Veronica (played by Geena Davis) doesn’t believe his wild claims. However, as Seth's body begins to age rapidly, growing hair, losing teeth, and oozing with goo, Veronica starts to accept the reality of the situation. She does not abandon her boyfriend but calmly faces the truth with him, even as he becomes more grotesque, choosing to embrace him in bed despite his deteriorating condition.
