Under the protection of Tang Tiesheng, Ren Baijia has created numerous works. Zhang Dawen (played by Ren Jianhui), who was about to go to the capital for the imperial examination, and the maid Juanhong (played by Bai Xuexian), after a night of passion, caused a series of tragedies due to the constraints of etiquette. In the end, Juanhong bore the death penalty for the murder of the Prime Minister's son. Dawen intervened as the top scholar, denied his wife in court, yet it was Juanhong who, in a confused state, called out for her husband. In the second trial, he confronted the Prime Minister (Liu Kexuan) openly, but still could not prevent a severe sentence; Dawen resolutely resigned from his official position and accompanied his beloved into exile to avoid exposure. In the third trial, he fearlessly claimed to be her husband, but luckily was exonerated. Tang Tiesheng allowed a deviant youth to encounter a rational legal environment, where the intertwined lyrics of denial and acknowledgment reflected a progressive perspective of the times. Meanwhile, Ren Baili interpreted lines like 'For my beloved, I would give my life; for my beloved, I would remove my name from the register' and 'The world is desolate, not just for me', winning tears from the young audience of that era with his pride and integrity.
