Sixty-year-old David (played by Ben Kingsley) is a locally renowned cultural commentator, captivating audiences with his charisma on television. As a university professor, he refrains from engaging in inappropriate relationships with female students before grading their assignments to avoid allegations of sexual harassment. David sees himself as a free spirit when it comes to relationships, and his closest companion is a former female student from 20 years ago. However, everything changes when he meets 24-year-old Consuela (played by Penélope Cruz). He is enchanted by the youth and physical form she represents, like a perfect figure in a painting. Yet, he struggles to believe that he could ever truly have her, convinced that there are always younger, more outstanding men who might take her away. Consequently, whenever Consuela invites him to meet her family and friends, David always declines, refusing to enter her world. When Consuela expresses her strong desire for him to attend her graduation ceremony, David reluctantly agrees but ultimately backs out at the last moment, leaving Consuela heartbroken. She leaves for two years. During that time, David faces the sorrow of his close friends and the death of old acquaintances. When Consuela reenters his life, she brings a more unexpected message. This story is adapted from Philip Roth's novel 'The Dying Animal.'
