Max Hawke was originally a world boxing champion. The scene of once killing an opponent with a single punch often replayed in Max's mind, leaving him shivering and unable to forget. Now, Max has left the boxing ring to work as a photographer for Sports Illustrated, with flights taking him all over the world, capturing dynamic and passionate sports images that earn him the appreciation and recognition of his boss, Joe. Guam is a pearl in the Pacific, a paradise on earth. Upon arriving in Guam, Max immediately goes to find his former friend Zashi. Zashi was once Max's manager and now runs an import-export company dealing in ancient art and crafts in Guam, where he is the boss. Just minutes before Max steps into Zashi's art gallery, a stolen jade dragon belonging to the Japanese Black Dragon Society is handed over to Zashi by the thief. The jade dragon is the urn of the deceased leader Yoshida, which the Black Dragon Society regards as a supreme sacred object. Following the theft of the jade dragon, the leader of the Black Dragon Society sends his capable subordinate Aya with the absolute order to succeed and not to fail, to diligently track down the whereabouts of the jade dragon.
