However, while they pretended to work together on the surface, they were secretly plotting against one another, even engaging in street fights and killing each other. Behind the scenes: 'Abandoned City' raised most of its funding by connecting with netizens for donations through Facebook. The film's producer and leading star, Rong Xiang, and director Qian Renhao raised NT$8.72 million at the start of production, with the remaining funds jointly invested by the two and applying for 'film self-produced guidance funds' to complete the project. Director Qian Renhao is a unique figure among Taiwan's rising directors; regarding his target audience, he stated: 'This movie is not suitable for sissies and fake intellectuals.' He also said, 'I can't stand some pretentious films in Taiwan; we watch movies to pass the time, it’s the same reason we go to KTV to have fun.'
