In the future, Earth can no longer support such a large population, so there is a need to explore the universe in search of other habitable planets. During the quest for suitable planets, humans begin to train gorillas to perform some simple tasks in place of humans. In one flight mission, astronaut Leo (played by Mark Wahlberg) experiences a cosmic storm that causes the gorilla-piloted spacecraft to lose contact with the space station. In a bid to rescue his partner, Leo disregards all obstacles and pilots the spacecraft alone into the center of the storm. However, the spacecraft ultimately crashes on an unfamiliar planet. When Leo wakes up, he is captured by a group of apes. Upon careful observation, he discovers that on this planet, the apes possess high intelligence and dominate, while real humans have become the slaves of the apes. To escape his predicament, Leo receives help from the mother ape, Ari (played by Helena Bonham Carter), and begins his journey of escape. During the escape, the signal receiver Leo carries gradually picks up signals from the mother ship. As everyone follows the signal's guidance, they discover that their destination is the very origin of the apes...
