The story revolves around Hanling Ozaki (played by Matsui), who cannot forget her first love, Jun Aiba (played by Tsuruhashi), whom she suddenly lost. The two traverse time multiple times to discover the truth behind Jun's death and change their destinies. The protagonist attempts to change the world in this time-traveling suspenseful love story. "Blue Birthday" was released as a web drama in South Korea in 2021 and became very popular, especially among the younger generation, and is being remade into a Japanese version.
