The play is adapted from real events. On December 21, 1988, Pan Am Flight 103 from London to New York was attacked by terrorists, resulting in the deaths of 259 passengers and crew members, and an additional 11 local residents of Lockerbie. Dr. Jim Swire (played by Colin Firth) lost his daughter in the Lockerbie disaster, and he was nominated as the spokesperson for the victims' families in the UK, dedicating himself to uncovering the truth behind the tragedy.
