Little Nicolas (played by Maxime Godart) is loved by his parents and enjoys playing with a group of friends at school. This group includes: Alceste (played by Vincent Claude), who wants to become a government official; Geoffroy (played by Charles Vaillant), who will inherit his family business; Clotaire (played by Victor Carles), who dreams of becoming a bicycle champion but is always put in detention; Eudes (played by Benjamin Averty), who wants to be a gangster when he grows up; Rufus (played by Germain Petit Damico), who hopes to become a policeman like his father; and Agnan (played by Damien Ferdel), who is the top student in class, never gets detention, and is the favorite of the teacher (played by Sandrine Kiberlain), but is disliked by other classmates and called a cockroach. One day, Nicolas's mother (played by Valérie Lemercier) suggests to his father (played by Kad Merad) to invite the boss and his wife over for dinner, hoping to gain the boss's favor for a raise. However, Nick mistakenly believes that his parents are having another baby and do not want him anymore based on what he hears and observes. Depressed, little Nicolas seeks help from his friends, who suggest a variety of ridiculous ideas such as sending flowers, doing a thorough house cleaning, or even adopting a brother from a criminal. Meanwhile, the Minister of Education is also coming to visit the school, and the class gets a strict substitute teacher. This film is based on the comic series of the same name created by French writer René Goscinny and illustrated by cartoonist Jean-Jacques Sempé. The film was a box office hit in France, quickly becoming the highest-grossing film in the country and was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 2010 César Awards.
