The writer Robert (played by Nathan Fillion) takes his wife Molly (played by Chandra West) to a cabin by the lake in the countryside for a vacation. Molly has an endless fear of water due to the drowning death of their daughter and has been living in a shadow of sorrow. This vacation is meant to help her relax and breathe a little, but unexpectedly, they encounter a complex and strange case. One day, Robert accidentally sees an officer about to shoot a critically endangered woman named Lei (played by Emmanuelle Vaugier) and, in a panic, bravely saves her, inadvertently killing the officer. According to Lei, the officer's name was Dodd, who had forcibly attacked her and intended to kill her to silence her. Robert has little doubt about this, but he is puzzled by the $200,000 cash found in the police car at the scene and the intimate photos of Lei with the local mayor. However, the situation is far more complicated than Robert imagined. The relationships involving Lei, Dodd, the mayor, the $200,000 cash, and the photos plunge Robert and his family into unprecedented danger.
