Liu Jin Jin (played by Peng Yu Yan), a progressive young man with agile skills, is tasked by an organization to escort a group of important intellectuals stranded in Hong Kong back to the mainland, and Mao Dun's family is on that list. By chance, Fang Lan gets entangled in this dangerous operation and, encouraged by Liu Jin Jin's suggestions, she joins the revolutionary ranks, leading both mother and daughter to be swept into the torrents of history.
