Intro: Lover (Tony Leung Chiu-Wai)In 1929, Vietnam was a French colony, and a 15-year-old French girl (played by Jan Maqui) was studying at a girls' boarding school in Saigon. Every holiday, she would return home, where her mother ran a very small school that earned very little income. She had two brothers; the eldest, Bill, was a drug addict and a bully, while the second brother, Paul, was timid and often bullied by Bill. One day, as usual, the girl said goodbye to her mother and took a ferry back to school. On the boat, she encountered a wealthy Chinese young man (played by Tony Leung) in a black luxury car, who was the only son of a wealthy overseas Chinese. The Chinese man took a liking to the white girl and struck up a conversation, and they hit it off. At the boarding school, the girl learned that some of her classmates were selling themselves for money, and she wanted to find a wealthy man to try her luck, so she actively engaged in conversation with the man. After disembarking, they strolled around Saigon and had Chinese food together at a restaurant. The man drove her back to school. The next day, as soon as school was over, the black car was waiting at the school gate. The two quickly fell in love. The man took the girl to his mansion, a place commonly used by wealthy Chinese for romantic encounters. They met there, bathed, and played together. Sometimes they wouldn't return to school at night, and the school had no choice but to notify her mother, but...
