The invading Japanese army conducted large-scale searches for anti-Japanese fighters in Shanghai, and the Wang puppet government formed a "Special Operations Office" headed by former Kuomintang officer Bi Zhongliang. Deep undercover next to Bi Zhongliang, a CCP member codenamed "Sparrow" named Chen Shen temporarily lost contact with his organization. In this perilous situation, surrounded by enemies, Chen Shen remained steadfast in his beliefs, risking his life to rescue his superior known as the "Prime Minister" and other anti-Japanese fighters. Although Bi Zhongliang had a brotherly bond with his benefactor Chen Shen, he began to harbor suspicions and set numerous traps to gradually close in on him. After the sacrifice of the "Prime Minister," Chen Shen finally found a new superior, "Doctor," and was ordered to obtain an important operational plan codenamed "Return to Zero" from the Japanese army. Chen Shen's former lover, Xu Bicheng, disguised as a wife with another military intelligence officer, Tang Shanhai, infiltrated the Special Operations Office, creating trouble and crises for Chen Shen during multiple operations. Amidst these deadly traps, the clever Chen Shen skillfully exploited the subtle gaps between various forces, including the Japanese and the Wang puppet officials, while also paying a significant price.
