Justin Theroux plays the local sheriff, Kevin Garvey, a father of two. After the 'Rapture' event, he faces blame from the community, but he remains the backbone for all the 'abandoned people,' being the only one who can maintain normalcy in the town—even though 'normal' is something the locals view as a thing of the past. Amy Brenneman plays Sheriff Garvey's wife, Laurie, who unexpectedly abandons her life, career, and family to join the mysterious group GR (Guilty Remnant). The GR is comprised of a tiny number of individuals who believe they are guilty and are determined to remain loyal to God for redemption; they all wear white garb, remain silent, and numb their nerves with cigarettes. They form pairs to patrol the town and monitor everyone they can. Chris Zylka plays the Garvey's son, Tom, who is drawn to religious leader Holy Wayne after dropping out of college, choosing a life of isolation. Margaret Qualley plays the Garvey's daughter, Jill, who, despite the recent drastic changes impacting her worldview, and while she and her friends feel utterly lost, still yearns to restore life to what it once was, much like her father.
