Intro: Books by the bedsideWhen Hezi (played by Wu Junmei) was a child, every birthday her father would use a brush dipped in red paint to write on her face, leaving a deep impression on her. From then on, she believed that the calligraphy written on the body was the only true form of calligraphy. Additionally, having been nurtured in literature from a young age, she had her own independent thoughts but was unable to freely express herself due to the authority of patriarchy in reality. Also, because she struggled to understand that her pursuit of self was embedded in her obsession with literature, Hezi's first marriage ended in failure. Later, she moved to Hong Kong, where she met a publisher and his gay partner, Xie Lang (played by Ewan McGregor), who encouraged her to write on her own body. Hezi then created "The Pillow Book," treating each completed writing as a volume. After finishing a volume, Xie Lang would go to the publisher and show the writing on her body. However, Hezi became unable to bear Xie Lang's neglect and avoided him. In an effort to win her back, Xie Lang decided to threaten to end his life.
