During the Anti-Japanese War, Hua Zhen, who came from a prominent Kuomintang family, originally intended to join the navy to fulfill his dream of becoming a captain. However, an unexpected trip to Shanghai completely changed his life—he changed his name to Xiang Yuansheng and became a low-level officer in a rundown police station. Here, Xiang Yuansheng met two of the most important people in his life—Communist Party members Chen Hao and Luo Minmin, who helped him find the meaning of life.
