Over the years, she has witnessed her female students drop out of school due to poverty, getting married or going to work at the age of 15 or 16, which deeply pains and saddens her. She is determined to establish a fully free girls' high school, so that these girls in the mountains can have the opportunity to receive an education, go to college, and change their destinies completely. In 2008, the only fully free girls' high school in China was established. Despite facing overwhelming challenges such as a lack of teachers, students, funding, and experience, Zhang Guimei led the female teachers and students to accomplish the impossible task: to enable all the severely underprepared female students to gain admission to college. This girls' high school has allowed many girls to leave the mountains and change their destinies. However, as the school developed, more and more impoverished girls from the mountains came to apply, bringing new problems and difficulties...
