Hundreds of years ago, the vampire Wayne Gretzky (played by Adam Johnson) fell in love with a beautiful human girl named Mary (played by Julie Gonzalo), but accidentally bit her to death, losing his ability to drink blood in the process. In contemporary society, Gretzky disguises himself as a history teacher at Hawthorne University. He is humorous and quirky, earning the affection of his students, while only Principal Levin (played by Gary Cole) knows his secret and tries to provide him with psychological counseling.
