 Synopsis
According to the account in the "Book of Exodus" from the Bible, the "Ten Commandments" are ten rules from God to humanity. What Kieslowski presents are ten modern-day heretical warnings. Each of the ten short films tells a story about ordinary people in everyday life, posing numerous questions about morality, human nature, religious ethics, and scientific rationality within the human spirit. The first commandment features a small bus driver who drowned in a lake, a result of his father's blind faith in electronic technology; the second commandment depicts a woman facing a difficult choice; the third commandment revolves around the plight of marriage; the fourth commandment addresses family ethics... The tenth commandment ends with suspicion between two brothers. Kieslowski lays bare the ancient ten commandments for us, as the eternal human questions once again confront the challenges and doubts of modern society regarding spiritual laws. Director Krzysztof Kieślowski won the Children and Cinema Award and many other accolades at the Venice Film Festival in 1989. © Douban
