The 88th Army was a hollow force, but Fang Hah'er prioritized national righteousness and provided his own supplies, fighting fiercely against the Japanese army. Under the guidance of New Fourth Army commander Dai Zongnan, Hah'er first thwarted the Japanese army's gas attack plans, and then achieved a series of victories, including the destruction of Japanese ammunition depots and the killing of a Japanese lieutenant general brigade commander. Through his interactions with Dai Zongnan, Fang Hah'er gradually became influenced by the Communist Party's belief in prioritizing the people. However, despite his extraordinary military achievements and close relationship with the New Fourth Army, he faced constant resistance from the higher-ups of the Kuomintang. Hah'er had to navigate the Kuomintang's challenges while also defending against Japanese attacks. Ultimately, with the help of Dai Zongnan, Fang Hah'er successfully annihilated the Japanese 16th Division, making significant contributions to the victory of the Anti-Japanese War.
