In the late Tang Dynasty when the princes were vying for power, the kings Liu, Duan, and Li from the northwest Yellow River basin sought to monopolize the world’s power, leading to constant warfare. Prince Liu (played by Ji Chunhua) took over the Duan Prince's manor, and when Prince Duan (played by Jin Dema) fled for his life, he was saved by the Yellow River hero Ma Yi (played by Yu Chenghui). Following this, Ma Yi’s village was brutally attacked by Prince Liu’s army. All of this was witnessed by Prince Li (played by Zhao Zhigang). Ma Yi befriended a traveling performer, Che Tian (played by Chunyao Shanshan), who, recognizing his martial prowess, encouraged him to set up a performance which earned him a considerable fortune. Prince Li sent someone to persuade Ma Yi to join him, but when that failed, he poisoned Ma Yi’s eyes, believing that Che Tian was responsible. Ma Yi, thinking Che Tian was to blame, sought to kill him for revenge, but after the misunderstanding was cleared, they became sworn brothers. Before long, Prince Duan welcomed Ma Yi into his manor. Despite Ma Yi being blind, his swordsmanship remained extraordinary, and Prince Duan treated him as a benefactor, using him to eliminate Prince Liu. When Prince Duan sent assassins to intercept Prince Li and that failed, he then attempted to kill his daughter Zhenzhen (played by Wan Qiong), but she was saved by the coincidentally passing Ma Yi. Hearing this, Prince Duan devised a new plot, while by now Zhenzhen and Ma Yi had developed feelings for each other.
