When Graham returns to his hometown after many years, he has nothing but a car and these videotapes. So he temporarily stays at the home of his classmate John. John (played by Peter Gallagher) is a successful man who has been having an affair with his wife Anne's (played by Andie MacDowell) sister Cynthia, while neglecting his wife. While Anne accompanies Graham to look for a rental house, they have a long conversation about sex in a restaurant, where Anne admits she doesn’t place much importance on her sex life, while Graham reveals his secret: he is impotent. By chance, Anne discovers the videotapes Graham made with various women, and feeling troubled by her husband's indifference, she decides to record herself as well.
