This film is based on a true story. 23-year-old De Zai (played by Xu Tianyou) relies on his mother (played by Hui Yinghong), who has a drinking problem. In addition to helping in his mother's small grocery store, De Zai usually does nothing and starts a romantic relationship with 15-year-old Ying (played by Huang Minghui), which leads to them having sexual relations. De Zai and Ying's affair is discovered by Ying's parents, who become furious, demand a large sum of money from De Zai's mother, and threaten to sue De Zai. The weak-willed De Zai is panicked, and his anxious mother seeks financial help from De Zai's divorced father, but still cannot convince Ying's parents to drop the lawsuit. In a desperate move, De Zai arranges to meet Ying and her friend in the countryside for negotiations with two friends, but unexpectedly, a disagreement escalates to a violent incident. With nothing left, how will the mother face the irreparable tragedy her son has caused?
