Thus, he raised Xiao Feng, Ah Wah, and Liang Zai on his own. Several years later, Liang Zai (played by Michael Chan) is uneducated and addicted to gambling, which leads him to accumulate a huge debt. Ah Wah is injured while trying to save him and attracts the attention of a powerful mob boss, forcing him to seek help from Zhou (played by Chow Yun-fat). Because of Ah Wah's bravery and loyalty, Zhou keeps him close and gives him important responsibilities, allowing Ah Wah to rise in power; however, Liang Zai, who is frivolous and impetuous, earns Zhou's disfavor and subsequently harbors resentment towards Ah Wah.
