This film describes a few days in the lives of a writer named Harmon (played by John Cassavetes) and his sister Sarah (played by Gena Rowlands). Most of the film's plot takes place in Harmon's home, as they struggle through life: Harmon leads an extremely decadent life, getting by with alcohol, cigarettes, and a series of short-term relationships with women, whether they are women he meets through work or in entertainment venues.
