War correspondent Matt Erhman (played by Tahmoh Penikett from Dollhouse) ends his dangerous life spent dodging bullets after many years and decides to choose a quiet life. At a wild party in Singapore, Matt plans to propose to his girlfriend, Jessie McCallan (played by Laura Vandervoort), but they suddenly encounter a horrific tragedy, both dying in an explosion caused by a suicide bomber. After an unknown amount of time, Matt wakes up again, only to find himself in a strange space. After crossing a turbulent river, he meets many people who died in the explosion, many of whom have regained their youthful appearances. After a brief period of astonishment, Matt resolves to find the missing Jessie. During this mysterious journey, he encounters countless strange occurrences and even meets many famous historical figures. Throughout this process, the truth gradually comes to light... This film is adapted from the novel of the same name and was made into a four-part miniseries by the Sci-Fi Channel.
