Jim (played by Chris Pratt) is a working-class passenger on the Avalon spaceship. During the 120-year journey to the space colony Homestead II, he wakes up from cryogenic sleep due to an accident. Discovering that he might have to spend 89 years alone on this giant ship, Jim attempts to fall back asleep but ultimately has to live in isolation among 5,000 fellow passengers in their sleep pods. On the brink of suicide, Jim, in a moment of despair, decides to awaken a female passenger named Aurora (played by Jennifer Lawrence), and the two develop a spark of romance during their time together. However, when the ship's operating system malfunctions, the couple faces even greater challenges, with their lives threatened not only by their own circumstances but also by their fellow travelers and the voyage itself.
