In a shabby apartment somewhere, the body of a woman who died several months ago is discovered. The police initially determined that the woman named Yoko Suzuki had died a typical lonely death, but the investigating female officer, Ayano Okuni (played by Manami Konishi), holds a different view, as clues at the scene indicate that there is more to Yoko's death than meets the eye. The camera flashes back, revealing Yoko's (played by Machiko Ono) tumultuous and bleak life. She was never favored by her mother since childhood and later moved to Tokyo to make a living alone, enduring humiliation to sell one more insurance policy.
