 Synopsis
Young officer Xu Wenqiang (Leslie Cheung) is ambushed by Japanese secret agents while fleeing, falling into the sea. When he drifts ashore at the Bund, he collapses from exhaustion. Ding Li (Andy Lau), passing by, tries to save him but is met with Xu's instinctive self-defense. After a brief fight, they become friends. When Ding Li accidentally saves the daughter of Shanghai tycoon Feng Jingyao (Wu Xingguo), Feng Chengcheng (Ning Jing), he wishes to marry her, but she has her heart set on someone else. Feng Chengcheng views him only as a good friend, while her true affection lies with his good brother Xu Wenqiang, whom she met on a train during a journey. Xu Wenqiang also develops feelings for her due to her bravery, kindness, and intelligence. When Xu Wenqiang encounters Feng Chengcheng again, passion overwhelms him, putting an end to his friendship with Ding Li. However, when Xu Wenqiang and Feng Chengcheng discuss marriage, he unexpectedly discovers that Feng Jingyao is the mastermind behind the pursuit of him and his colleagues, and his identity is recognized by the other party, filling the room with tension.
