The story of 'The Anti-Bandit Chronicles of Western Sichuan' recounts the love-hate relationship between the young Zhou Zhibin from the smoking passage stronghold at Erhekou and Danfeng, a woman from a traveling opera troupe, during the twilight of the birth of New China. The passionate young man Zhou Zhibin and the lead actress Danfeng pledge their love with flying daggers at Wannian Terrace. However, Zhou's father, Zhou Wenxuan, also becomes enamored with Danfeng's heroism and chivalry. A smoking ban imposed by the new county magistrate sent by the Nationalist government plunges Erhekou into bloody turmoil over the control of the smoking passage. Zhou Zhibin forms a brotherhood with Zhang Jibang, the son of the town head, and Huang Dengbao, an orphan from Erhekou, vowing to defend their town to the death. To rescue Danfeng, they bravely infiltrate the bandits' lair multiple times but are captured by the notorious bandit leader, King Kong Diamond. In a twist of fate, Huang Dengbao defected to King Kong Diamond's organization and became one of his most formidable soldiers. Zhang Jibang is wrongfully accused and secretly sent by the enlightened magistrate Ma Yuzhi to a military academy in the provincial capital. Meanwhile, Zhou Zhibin is crippled by King Kong Diamond while trying to save Danfeng.
