Jane (played by Greta Scacchi) is a newcomer in the British film industry, excited to be invited to star in a small production, and her father accompanies her to Rome. During the filming, her father, who is a journalist, hopes to interview the male lead, Elioson (played by Peter Coyote), but he is refused. Elioson's arrogance infuriates Jane, leading her to threaten to withdraw from the film in protest. This shocks Elioson, who apologizes to Jane and makes an exception to accept the interview. This wins Jane's heart, but she later discovers that Elioson is a married man, leading her to leave Rome sadly and return to her boyfriend. Elioson also ends up arguing with his wife, Susan (played by Jamie Lee Curtis), and goes to Paris. The two meet again, and their passion reignites, completely ignoring the world around them.
