John (played by Channing Tatum), a member of the U.S. Army Special Forces, unexpectedly meets a college student, Savannah (played by Amanda Seyfried), while vacationing in his hometown. They quickly fall in love. After growing up, John rarely communicates with his father, who is obsessed with coin collecting, but Savannah is very friendly to him. Their vacation ends quickly, and when they part, John promises Savannah that his service will end in one year, and afterward, they will never be apart again. Troops stationed overseas often camp in remote areas, and John can only express his feelings to Savannah through letters. In those affectionate words, they both long for a future together. After the 9/11 events, John's service is extended, putting their relationship at risk, but they soon reconcile. However, after returning to his unit, John doesn't receive letters from Savannah for a long time, and when he finally gets a letter, it's a breakup note. As he is still reeling from the pain of heartbreak, John is unfortunately injured and, in the moment before losing consciousness, he thinks of his father's coin collection. Years later, when John meets Savannah again, he discovers the secret behind that breakup letter… This film is adapted from Nicholas Sparks' eleventh novel, 'The Last Song'.
