Brad (played by Jack Black) is a middle-aged slacker, and when he decides to spend a large sum of money to participate in the "Big Year," his parents think he has lost his mind; Stu (played by Steve Martin) is the president of a large company, so when he decides to put his million-dollar business on hold to join the "Big Year," his assistant thinks he has gone crazy. The old and the young meet during the competition and quickly become friends, deciding to take on their fiercest competitor – last year's "Big Year" champion, Kenny (played by Owen Wilson). Only birdwatchers can understand what it means to give up an entire year's career and life. The three "birdwatchers" compete fiercely in the Big Year, but ultimately they must confront the issues in their lives... The film is adapted from Mark Obmascik's 1998 novel of the same name.
