 Synopsis
This film is based on the novel by Andrew Michael Hurley, exploring the inherited trauma and loss in a world dominated by supernatural folklore, set in the English countryside of the 1970s. Richard and Juliet lead a pastoral family life, which descends into chaos when their son Ivan begins to show signs of behavioral issues, creating an insurmountable divide for the once-happy couple. In their remote hometown of StarveAcre, archaeologist Richard strives to uncover a legend—the ancient oak trees on their land hold extraordinary power. When his wife Juliet seeks some peace from the local community, Richard becomes obsessed with digging deeper, and an unexpected discovery soon captures the couple's attention, while dark and malevolent forces gradually enter their home, presenting an unsettling possibility for reestablishing their connection.
