This film is composed of four independent short stories, all related to "deception." Two of the stories take place during the Republican era: In the first story, "Needles to Eliminate Life," a man named Hua Yituo (played by Gu Feng), who claims to be an acupuncture expert, along with his apprentice (Wu Mingcai), is invited to treat a woman's daughter (Ouyang Shafei). They perform a shocking double act that terrifies the woman, who hurriedly pulls out nearly all her savings. To her dismay, after Hua Yituo gives a needle treatment, her daughter dies, and soon after, Hua Yituo transforms into a renowned healer. In the second story, "The Flower and Willow Doctor," the beautiful and curvy Cao Lizhu (Wang Ping) visits a jewelry store claiming to be the sister of the nearby flower and willow doctor Cao Jiren (Jiang Nan). She intends to select an expensive set of jewelry for her niece who is about to get married. After making her selection, she asks the shop assistant Zhou Ji (Kang Kai) to deliver it to her brother. While Zhou Ji is packing the jewelry, Cao Lizhu visits Cao Jiren and begins to feign a familial connection, claiming that her work cousin Zhou Ji, who is at the nearby jewelry store, has contracted a sexually transmitted disease but is too embarrassed to seek treatment. She asks him to give special attention when he pretends to deliver the jewelry to her cousin, which Cao Jiren, already infatuated, readily agrees to. The stories in the other two segments take place in the early 1970s: In the third story, "The Money Printing Machine," Sophie (Shao Yinyin) and Anna (Danna), who have become wealthy through the flesh trade, learn from their friend David (Jansen) that a foreigner (Ji Gao), who is returning home, is looking to sell a machine that prints real money. The two women become interested, and while using the money produced by the machine for shopping and gambling, they find it indeed very useful and excitedly write out a huge check to buy it. In the fourth story, "I Want a Man," the highly sexual Miss Zhou (She Shali) is dissatisfied with her useless fiancé. With her alluring looks and exceptional skills, many powerful men fall under her spell. The general manager (Yue Hua) of a company selling electrical appliances gets completely fooled, losing both money and faith, while his wife, the chairwoman of the company (Chen Ping), upon discovering her husband's affair with a female employee, also starts to seek out male employees in a similar manner.
