This film is a modern noir that tells the story of a sarcastic detective, reeking of gin, who navigates a group of eccentric characters while tracking a mysterious middle-aged man. The man is traveling from Chicago to Los Angeles with a Mexican boy. John Rosso is a Chicago detective whose case-solving skills often come at a price; he likes to get caught up in details but never loses his cool. Rosso receives an invitation from influential lawyer Drexler Hewitt, tasked with tracking a man who is heading to Los Angeles with a young boy. Hewitt's rude assistant, Miss Charlie, gives him cash and instructions, and then his latest assignment begins. However, upon arriving in Santa Monica, Rosso is caught off guard to learn that his target has changed. He now needs to bring the man back to New York. In return, Rosso will receive a hefty reward of $500,000.
