Alberto (played by Claudio Bisio) has worked at the post office in town for his entire life. Because of this job, his relationship with his wife Silvia (played by Angela Finocchiaro) is very tense. Silvia hopes that Alberto can work harder to get transferred to the big city of Milan, but Alberto's efforts seem to backfire; instead of being promoted, he has been demoted and transferred to a distant branch in the southern region. As a Northerner, living in the South is a terrifying prospect for Alberto, but he soon discovers that the residents of this small southern town are very friendly and kind. He even makes a friend named Mattia (played by Alessandro Siani), while his wife knows nothing about all of this.
