Ted (played by Keanu Reeves) and Bill (played by Alex Winter) are classmates at the same high school, and they share a very close friendship. Perhaps the reason they hit it off so well is that their IQs are on the same low level, lower than that of others, to be precise. What's worse is that Bill and Ted spend their time loafing around together, showing no interest in studying, which results in poor grades, as one can imagine. With a history exam approaching, the two suddenly learn a shocking piece of news: if they fail this exam, they won't be able to graduate. Stunned, they find themselves at a loss. At that moment, a visitor from the future named Rufus (played by George Carlin) appears before them. Whether Rufus's claims are true or not, Ted and Bill realize he is their only hope for saving their graduation.
