In 1992, the continuous tribal wars devastated the East African country of Somalia, leaving the people in dire straits. The ensuing famine caused by this led to the death of 300,000 people. The dictator Mohamed Farah Aidid, who controlled the capital Mogadishu, stole aid supplies from international organizations, inciting public outrage.
