Afghan Muhammad (played by Vincent Gallo) encounters three American soldiers in a desolate mountainous region. In a panic, he kills them with the weapon in his hand. Muhammad is then captured by the arriving American troops and subjected to interrogation and abuse in an American military prison. On the way to his transport, an American military vehicle crashes, and in the chaos, Muhammad unexpectedly gains his freedom. He kills passersby in the freezing snow, steals vehicles and clothing, and kills military dogs while being pursued by the Americans. In the desolate forest, Muhammad survives by eating tree bark, engaging in a desperate struggle for survival. Amidst the assault of snow and ice, he vaguely begins to see memories of the past and has a miraculous perception of future events.
