Due to the kidnapping by the gangsters, a pair of twin brothers were separated right after birth. The younger brother, played by Jackie Chan, was rescued by a nightclub dancer and raised to live as a vagabond at the bottom of society. In order to help his friend with dating, he meets the singer Barbara (played by Maggie Cheung) and consequently offends the mafia. Meanwhile, the older brother, Ma You (also played by Jackie Chan), is taken to the United States by a wealthy couple, receives a good education, and becomes a famous musician. During a concert back in Hong Kong, he meets Tang Xin (played by Anita Yuen), the daughter of his mentor's family. By chance, the two brothers swap roles and enter each other's lives. Confusion arises as everyone is unable to tell who is Ma You and who is the younger brother, leading to comical situations, and the feelings of Barbara and Tang Xin also start to change. At the concert, the younger brother messes up the performance yet accidentally becomes a huge success, while Ma You, under the mafia's threat, drives to rescue his friend Tai Shan, who has been taken hostage. Afterwards, the brothers join forces to fight against the powerful enemies.
