The film is adapted from the novel "Balé da Utopia" by Brazilian writer, journalist, and political activist Álvaro Caldas, published in 1993. Set in Belo Horizonte during the military dictatorship in Brazil in the 1970s, it follows young university student Cristiana (played by Mel Lisboa) who idolizes her literature professor Saulo (played by Felipe Camargo), who also develops feelings for her. Since Cristiana is a radical in a dangerous position being hunted by the authorities, the sympathetic Saulo hides her in an apartment where they live a life filled with both tension and romance. Later, an injured armed revolutionary named Vaslav (played by Sérgio Marone), who is always masked, ends up trapped in the same apartment. The three of them share their lives together, discussing and debating their lives and political choices. In Saulo's absence, Cristiana and Vaslav grow closer and ultimately, she falls in love with the ballet dancer. Thus, the love intertwined with revolution sways between loyalty, betrayal, and desire, leading to serious issues between her and her lover Saulo, forcing a choice upon Saulo.
