During the Anti-Japanese War in Baiyangdian, Hebei, the mischievous and reckless boy Zhang Ga (played by Anjisi) witnesses his grandmother being killed by the Japanese invaders while covering the escape of the Eighth Route Army. Once the misunderstanding is resolved, Zhang Ga dreams of becoming a little soldier of the Eighth Route Army and wants to have a gun.
