In the South Pacific, fierce competition unfolded between Japan and the United States, where the bottom line of humanity was completely destroyed amid the sound of gunfire. The 'Charlie Company,' part of the U.S. Army, received a daunting task: they were ordered to land on Guadalcanal and reclaim the 210 position occupied by the Japanese army. The Japanese army had the advantage of terrain and their defenses were as solid as a fortress. However, military orders were as heavy as a mountain; even if facing a sea of knives and flames, the soldiers of Charlie Company had to bravely advance. This group of young men threw themselves into this brutal battlefield for the sake of so-called justice... This film is adapted from the 1962 novel of the same name by American writer James Jones, and won the Golden Bear and a special mention at the 1999 Berlin International Film Festival; the Best Cinematography Award from the Chicago Film Critics Association in 1999; the Best Foreign Film Award from the Australian Film Critics Association in 2000; and the Best Foreign Film Director Award from Film Comment in 2000.
