Hengji (played by Cao Zaixian) is a mute thug who encounters a beautiful female college student, Senhua (played by Sun Wan), on the street. He is captivated by her beauty as he watches her sitting on a bench, but she has no positive feelings towards him. When Senhua's boyfriend arrives, Hengji forcefully kisses her in public, attracting a torrent of insults, and when asked to apologize, he refuses to do so. Later, when Senhua goes to a bookstore, she foolishly takes a wallet that someone else has lost and ends up being targeted for blackmail. To repay her huge debt, Senhua has no choice but to sign a contract to sell herself. Unbeknownst to her, this is all part of Hengji's scheme to trap her. He loves Senhua but knows that she cannot accept him; he believes that the only way to have a slim chance is to destroy her and put her in a lowly position.
