The story takes place between two generations of three families in contemporary Lhasa. The seasoned Tibetan opera performer Tuden, who has devoted his life to the opera troupe, faces continuous setbacks: his eldest son, Solang, resigns from his public service job to start his own business, accumulating heavy debts; his youngest son, Tashi, expresses a desire not to be a doctor but to sing Tibetan opera; and his eldest daughter, Quzong, finds herself in a romantic dilemma. Tibetan medicine practitioner Danzeng plans to enjoy retirement life in the mainland with his soon-to-retire wife, Qiao Yanru, but unexpectedly, she proposes a divorce. Their daughter, Dazhen, returning to the homeland for work, faces dual pressures from family and career. The soon-to-retire equestrian Jiumei confronts the final choice of her athletic career, while her younger sister, Gesang, sneaks away from the pastoral area to Lhasa, determined to apply to become a pilot. In the end, Solang and Dazhen move from constant conflict to mutual understanding and collaboration, deciding to start a business together; Tashi finds his career path with the help of volunteer doctors in Tibet; Quzong also finds her own happiness; Jiumei gives up a stable opportunity to fight for her dreams; and Gesang overcomes difficulties to embark on the path of learning to fly.
