Synopsis

In the remote Langruo Temple, there have been frequent deaths. The penniless scholar Ning Caichen (played by Leslie Cheung) disregards the objections of the Taoist priest Yan Chixia (played by Wu Ma) and decides to stay there. Late at night, Ning Caichen encounters the female ghost Nie Xiaoqian (played by Joey Wong), but unexpectedly, Xiaoqian reveals her murderous intent. However, Ning Caichen's integrity and kindness touch Xiaoqian, leading to an extraordinary love affair between a human and a ghost. This matter is discovered by the ancient tree demon grandmother (played by Lau Siu-Ming) who controls Xiaoqian, who wants to betroth her to the Black Mountain Old Demon. On one side is the grandmother's threats and temptations, and on the other side is the sincere feelings of the scholar, leaving Xiaoqian to make a difficult choice...
